I love your story about making the players come up with a way to entertain the bar patrons. That's an awesome idea! Thanks for reading!R.M. It was a bit of a risk, but I couldn't see a better way to bring across the idea of the puzzle than to use the actual puzzle.R.M. I have long sought to implement something like this in my game. I've often thought about using an Ipad Labyrinth app for lockpicking trials. I've used mazes and such, but I think players find the multimedia approach incredibly engaging.
Multimedia aside, I think DMs should look for any chance they can to replace or supplement skill challenges with actual activities for the players. At the game I played in this past week, our DM had us enter a bar of unimpressed scholars. The barkeep offered us his room in the overcrowded inn if we could get the joint jumping and the drinks flowing. Our DM then whipped out a quartet of simple instruments and told us to perform for the bar. We then sang a halfway decent and 100% improvised ballad off the top of our heads. I have no doubt it will become one of my fondest memories of that campaign and of Dnd in general.
These kind of awesome puzzles or challenges engage players in a way that simply rolling dice never could. I hope to see more puzzles this great in your Myst campaign in future!Jacob Yhttp://www.twitter.com/delayedsessionnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33628427.post-9635605907841480372011-12-05T13:45:41.676-06:002011-12-05T13:45:41.676-06:00As one of your players at said game, I can say tha...As one of your players at said game, I can say that although I "watched" you play Myst many years ago, and knew some of the puzzle aspects of the game, I had fun figuring out the puzzle with the guys-we worked well as a team IMHO,

LyreikaCampbell or @FELTit or Designs by Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17111507293715893127noreply@blogger.com
